Goldstream Park

Gah, silly thing won't let me lj-cut when I use the post function from scrapbook. *kills it*
Anyways. We went to Goldstream park today to see the salmon spawning. It was really cool. We cheered them on to their booty...apparently the other folks there weren't amused.
Go booty fish!
There was also another group there celebrating international children's day and they invited us to join them to have hotdogs and marshmallows by the fire. Mmmmmm toasty marshmellowness, they were good. We also met some folks from Barrie and Port Colborne...weird. Knew they couldn't have been from around here...they were too nice. ^O^;;;
Saw a couple of blad eagles in the process too...all around good natury coolness with picnic bonus.
The visitors center was interesting, they were doing a craft outside of it...something about making a fish print. I saw the instructions "cover fish with paint" "apply paper to fish." I thought they couldn't be serious...upon approach lo and behold....a huge dead salmon covered with various colours of paint. Gah! I'm sure the fish passed on of natural causes before hand...there were tons of "spent" salmon around. Still, I'm not a sure if a fishy after having worked so hard to get booty and died would appreciate being covered with paint by children. Maybe that's just me. *shrug*
Anyways, hurrah for the fishies and their booty achievements today!

This is the way to niagara falls. Sadly it was flooded this time of year so we couldn't go.

Bald eagle in flight. So very cool. They come to that park each year to eat the salmon.

Bald eagle flying away...in search of slamon no doubt...uppity baldy.

Aren't they cute? I thought they were.

Ah yes, the reason we went there today. Salmon.

Hehe...it amused me.

He's by the log.

international childrens day? in November? I thought it was in June...I'll talk to Kathy about that one since she seems to celebrate it every year since she was little. Interesting.

That's what I thought too. I wasn't about to say any different to them though. They felt like celebrating, who am I to tell them nay?

Oooo I just looked into it. Apparently it was Universal Children's Day. It's been celebrated on November 20th since 1954, it's a unicef thing.
